Greetings!
We've made it through another unpredictable New England summer. For a while there we weren't sure if the rains would ever stop. It seems like things are getting back to normal and August is looking much better. The Early Fall is the best time of year to improve your lawn. Our early fall fertilizer applied from the beginning of August until early September helps to kick off the most productive period of root growth. It also promotes a dark green color and strengthens the root system.
For best results you should water as needed, about 3 times per week. When watering soak it in deep for 30 to 60 minutes per zone. This will let the water reach deep into the soil stimulating deep-root growth and avoid evaporation. You should also be mowing nice and tall at 3" to 3 1/2".
If your lawn needs to thicken up some more, increase disease or drought resistence, or choke out remaining weeds we offer a whole host of additional services that can help. We can also help with other pest problems you may have such as ants, ticks, mosquitos, and poison ivy. Aeration & Overseeding
This is the most popular additional service that we offer because of the excellent results that it provides. Aeration and Overseeding in early Fall helps repair summer stress damage, thickens up weak areas, chokes out weeds, and eases compaction which allows fertilizer and water to get down to where the roots need it most. Aesthetically your lawn will look better. But this will also stimulate deep root growth for a stronger lawn, one that can choke out aggressive weeds and withstand summer stress in the future. Organic Composting
If your lawn doesn't have optimal soil conditions, if it struggles from time to time to retain moisture and look its best, or if you just want to have the best lawn on the block, composting may be just what you're looking for. Typically in this process we aerate the lawn aggressively, then we spread a consistent layer of organic composted cow manure across the lawn (about 300 lbs. per 1000 s.f.), and then seed the lawn heavily. This organic material contains no weed seed, is very rich in nutrients, and maintains moisture exceptionally well. For years to come the lawn will need less watering, will green up easier and retain green color longer, and will thicken up nicely any remaining bare areas. Thatch Control
By maintaining a healthy thatch level and removing excess thatch it allows the lawn to breathe, absorb water and nutrients efficiently, and naturally thicken itself in the process.
To remove excess thatch we not only offer Aeration, but we now offer two different dethatching services. For less serious buildup we can detatch with a tyne rake style detatcher which uses a sharp metal rake attachment to pull up the excess thatch. For heavy thatch layers we can use a power rake with circular blades that cut through the thatch, loosening dead and live organic material and bringing it to the surface of the lawn. When the dead thatch has been removed from the lawn, it is a perfect time to either overseed heavily or to aerate then overseed heavily. This process removes the dead part of the lawn and replaces it with new healthy growing grass to look beautiful, thicken naturally, and require less water in the future.

Tree & Shrub Care
We know your trees and shrubs add a lot to your landscaping. It is important to make sure they are getting what they need to thrive and look their best. The Fall is the best time of year to fertilize your shrubs and trees. Our Deep-root fertilization service injects a healthy balanced fertilizer into the root zone for the plants to soak up and store over winter. This results in springtime growth and improved flowering and health. Many evergreen plants also need to be protected from winter-burn. For this we have our anti-dessicant sprays, a waxy product that seals in moisture.
If you'd like to schedule these services or you've had other problems with your trees or shrubs please give us a call we'll send our arborist out to inspect and make recommendations. We can treat any existing disease or insect problem and we also perform pruning services.

Perimeter Pest Control
Insects such as ants, spiders, and silverfish try to invade your home to find food, water, and shelter. When inside they can cause structural damage, health concerns, or just be a general nuisance. If you've ever had an insect problem in your home then you know how difficult it is to get rid of them. It is safer and much easier to take steps to prevent insects from getting inside, and avoid the need for pesticides in the house where exposure risk is high.
Our foundation insect control program will create a barrier to repel insects away from your home. During each visit we treat around the perimeter of the house, up the foundation walls (focusing extra attention to cracks and crevices), and areas of special concern to our trained applicators.

Tick Control
The tick problem in our area has been especially bad this year. Some customers have told us of pulling dozens of ticks off their pet each week. Reported cases of Lyme Disease in some towns are up 400% from last year, this while 80% of cases are expected to still go undiagnosed.
We have two options to help control ticks on your property. The first is our Organic Garlic Sprays which work great to repel ticks and the animals who bring them into the yard. The other option is to spray the yard and the perimeter of the property with a mild insecticide to kill the existing ticks on the property, this is very effective. Many of our customers elect to have the lawn sprayed each spring and fall with the insecticide and follow the garlic spray program through the summer. This is by far the best way to keep your yard safe and it also works great to control mosquitos, allowing you to enjoy your property.
